2v2 Stay On Your Side

Set Up

Set up a small sided pitch and add a dividing line of cones down the middle of the pitch splitting it into a left and right side. Don't make the pitch too wide as you want players to be able combine and pass to each other. Base your width on how far your players can make a pass from the centre of the pitch.

Activity

Simple SSG with players playing 2v2. The goal of this game and the activities is to get players to start to understand basic positional awareness by having the players stay on their own side of the field.

As the players start to get the understanding of staying on one side of the pitch you can add some of the variations below to add a little complexity for them.

Variations

Team in possession must make at least 1 pass before they can score. Ball must enter both sides of the pitch.

The player in possession of the ball must dribble the ball into the other side of the pitch and when they do this their partner must switch and take the side of the pitch they have vacated. Add this as a condition before they can score.
